Minister Janice Braddy Obituary

Minister Janice Marjorie Shipman Braddy was born in Uvalda, Georgia on April 23, 1942, to parentage of the late Ottis and Elvira Shipman. She departed this life on March 18, 2024 at Meadows Regional Hospital, Vidalia, Georgia.

Originally an Uvalda native, she spent her early life in Brooklyn, New York.  In 1961 she graduated from Montgomery County High School. Immediately after graduating, she returned to New York where she was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank until she retired. She then later became a foster mother. She was also employed at Kiddie Castle in Lyons Georgia, Lumber City Nursing Home, and Altamaha Bank in Hazlehurst, Georgia, and a substitute teacher for Montgomery County School System. She was also a City Council member in Uvalda.

She was united in holy matrimony on December 23, 1962, to the late Nathaniel Braddy. To this union, four children were born.

Minister Braddy accepted Christ as her Lord and personal Savior at Miracle Temple Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Donald Kinsey in Brooklyn, New York. She was ordained as minister of the Lord’s church at the Hope Community Baptist Church in Statesboro, Georgia in 1999. She later became a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she served as one of the ministers of the house.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Willie Dave Shipman and Harris Shipman and sister, Shirley Shipman.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Maxon (Eileen) Braddy of Virginia Beach, Jackie (Tyshone) Day, Daphne (Marvin) Peeples, Joseph (Yolanda) Braddy, of Uvalda, Georgia, and Sharay Braddy of Statesboro Georgia; Siblings: Roy (Kathy) Shipman of New Jersey, and Cynthia Shipman of Vidalia Georgia; One sister-in-law, Pastor Alice Braddy of Albany Georgia; Twelve grandchildren, Fourteen great-grandchildren; A special niece, Evette Shipman of North Aurora, Illinois; One Godson, Reginald McCullum of Atlanta, Georgia and a Goddaughter, Portia Johnson of Raleigh, North Carolina; Special friends: Jimmy and Daisy Talton and Tim and Leslie Wooten; A host of cousins, nieces, and nephews that loved her dearly.
